Apple Podcasting Team
Apple can rightly claim a central role in the history of podcasting. Support for the nascent platform was first added to release 4.9 of the iTunes software in June 2005, and since then the Apple Store has become a leading repository for podcasts and brought them before a large mainstream audience. The site now contains over 150,000 video and audio podcasts.
Ray Archie Director of Streaming Operations, CBS Radio
Ray Archie has extensive technology, telecommunications and business experience in the financial services, NPO, social services and multimedia industries.
At CBS Radio, Ray has led the operations team to launch over 700 24/7 internet radio stations in less than 3 years. During that time, revenue was increased by 750% and CBS Radio firmly established itself as the largest internet radio broadcaster in the world. Ray is a regular speaker at Audio Engineering Society conventions and meetings.
Ray also plays jazz bass and is an avid fisherman.
Kate Arkless Gray Freelance journalist and multimedia producer
Since beginning her radio career as Station Manager at Cambridge University Radio, Kate Arkless Gray has done everything from answer the phones on a late-night love show, to reporting from Washington on the inauguration of Barack Obama. She's worked both in commercial and public radio stations, including Virgin, Century Network, LBC 97.3 and the BBC, and even done a stint of writing medical news for doctors.
Kate was one of the driving forces behind the award-winning BBC World Service 'Save Our Sounds' project, which collated user-submitted audio snapshots from across the globe and presented them on an online map.
Andrea Borgnino Manager, Marketing New Media, Rai Radio
Andrea Borgnino has worked for Italian national broadcaster Rai since 1997, dealing with radio and the internet. He has followed the first websites of the three Rai national channels Radio in 2001 and later worked as Project Manager for Rainet. After working for a time as New Media Manager at the EBU Radio Department in Geneva, Andrea has returned to Rai as Marketing New Media Manager at Radio Rai.
Maurice Castagna Project Leader - Innovation and New Media, NPO
Maurice Castagna is Project Leader at the Innovation and New Media Department of the Dutch public broadcasting organisation NPO. Upon graduating last year with a degree in Audiovisual Media from the Utrecht School of Arts, he was selected as one of six 'high-potential' graduates.
Together with radio station 3FM he has pursued the development of visual radio, working towards a system that streams webcam images while automatically enriching output with visual elements including photos, as well as Twitter, SMS and other feeds.
Andy Clark Head of English Department, Radio Netherlands Worldwide
Andy Clark has worked at Radio Netherlands Worldwide since 1998. Previously he worked as a producer with RNW's news and current affairs show Newsline, produced an interactive discussion programme Amsterdam Forum, and also worked in the Hague as a parliamentary correspondent before returning to Hilversum as head of department. Andy has more than 20 years of experience as a professional journalist and has worked for a variety of newspapers and radio stations in the UK and Hong Kong.
Olivier Daube Director, Business Intelligence and Innovation, Radio France
After graduating in Marketing and gaining a postgraduate diploma in Audio-Visual studies, Olivier Daube began his career in the videogame industry, working as a Territory Manager in Italy and Germany for Cryo Interactive.
On returning to France, he was in charge of content acquisition and marketing as a DVD & books Project Manager. Between 2006 and 2009, he worked for the cultural services of the French Embassy in New York as audio-visual attaché. His current post at Radio France sees him charged with innovation and business intelligence.
Jean-Paul De Vooght Senior Solutions Specialist, StreamTheWorld
Jean-Paul is a seasoned solution architect with 15 years' experience across Europe and North America.
Jean-Paul worked between 2005 and 2007 on various digital architecture assignments for clients such as Nestlé and Orange until he joined Smallrivers, a Web 2.0 company specialized in social media and the interconnection of content sharing the same affinity. He joined StreamTheWorld in 2008, and his role includes technical assessment and guidance in deploying live streaming solutions in audio and video for Broadcasters across Europe.
Mark Friend Controller, Multiplatform & Interactive, BBC Audio & Music
As Controller of BBC Multiplatform & Interactive, Mark runs the future media services for BBC Audio & Music. This includes delivering interactive services across web, mobile & wireless, DAB and DTV platforms for the BBC's radio networks and music output, and covering features such as listen again, podcasts, radio network sites, major music events and text and data services.
Previously Mark was controller of strategy across all BBC TV, radio and new media services. He led development of the BBC's 10-year new services vision which underpinned the Charter settlement, co-wrote the Building Public Value report and spent lots of time negotiating with other media companies and regulators.
José María García Content Management Director, Unión Radio
As the present Content Management Director at Unión Radio, Jose María leads a new production model which emphasises content management and asset sharing across all Union Radio brands and for eleven Latin-American countries.
Having worked in digital channels since the dawn of multimedia and streaming radio in 1996, José María was Internet Director at Spain's flagship network Cadena SER. He also edited their principal magazine Hoy por Hoy for seven years. He is frequently called on to speak on internet and radio research by companies and universities.
Ian Ginn Director, Hubbub Media and TransmediaLabs
Ian Ginn is a creative producer, writer and educationalist. His production company Hubbub Media is working with leading producers and creatives in Los Angeles and New York developing transmedia formats for teens and young adults. His consultancy company TransmediaLabs engages with clients in media and education, in product development, strategic business research and educational innovation. Working with digital media since 1991 he has produced feature films, television drama, interactive media and co-led innovation projects for leading media and technology corporations in Europe and the U.S.
Sarah Hartley Local Launch Editor, The Guardian
Sarah Hartley is The Guardian's local launch editor. She writes about journalism, social media, local news and online communities. Before joining the Guardian she was the head of online editorial for MEN Media in Manchester and is a co-founder of the city's Social Media Cafe.
Jan Hoek Director General, Radio Netherlands Worldwide
Jan C. Hoek is the Director General of MMR10's host broadcaster Radio Netherlands Worldwide, an international multimedia organisation which provides people all round the world with news and information in ten languages. He is also chairman of the EBU's International Broadcasting Group, chairman of the BVN Foundation (Dutch language satellite television), vice-chair of Euranet (co-operative group of radio stations from EU countries), a member of the executive committee of the AIB (Association for International Broadcasting) and a member of the supervisory board of Free Voice.
Justin Kings CEO, Newsleader Media
Justin Kings runs Newsleader, a media consultancy specialising in helping news and talk radio create compelling audio and multi-media content. Among the company's clients are BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat, a number of BBC Local stations and GMG Radio. A recipient of 5 prestigious Sony Radio Academy Awards in the UK, Justin oversaw news and programmes at BBC London 94.9 during which time the station achieved its highest ever audience figure and in 2006, his team at Capital beat tough competition to the breaking news Sony Award for its coverage of the London bombings.
Heiko Neubrand Head of Finance and Operations, Liquid Air Lab GmbH
Heiko, 33, came to spodtronic from Debitel, the largest German Mobile Virtual Network Operator. There he worked closely as a controller for the Product and Customer Department to ensure sustainable growth for debitel.
He has been actively participating in the development of the spodtronic radio app business. To date the spodtronic team has developed more than 200 mobile radio apps with a total of more than 4 million installations and around 20,000 new installations each day. His team works with international radio groups such as NRJ International, RTL Radio, SBS Radio, MTG, NRK, Absolute Radio, Digital 5 and Mediacorp to name a few.
Justine Potter Founder and Director, Savvy Productions
Savvy Productions specialises in providing entertainment and drama experiences anywhere, anytime. With their own multi-platform digital toolkit 'PlatformSavvy' - which enables narratives to be delivered across TV, theatre, online, mobile, games consoles, and portable devices - the company creates immersive experiences mixing physical and digital media and putting the audience at the heart of the drama.
From a career in theatre, Justine Potter moved to BBC Radio Drama, and worked as a producer at Red TV production company before setting up Savvy.
Rik Rensen Editor-in-Chief, Radio Netherlands Worldwide
Rik Rensen was Editor-in-Chief of the Dutch current affairs TV programme NOVA from 2002 to 2003, and for ten years (1989-1999) he was Editor-in-Chief of the Dutch RTL News. He was also Interactive Director for RTL Netherlands in 2000-2002 and interim Cross Media Director for the Dutch broadcaster SBS (2006-2008). Previously Mr Rensen worked for the newspaper NRC Handelsblad for ten years, which included four years as a correspondent in Italy, during which time he also reported for RNW.
Since August 2008 Mr Rensen has been the Editor-in-Chief of RNW's multimedia news and background services in ten languages.
Mark Rock CEO, Audio Boo
Mark is the founder & CEO of Best Before Media and Audioboo, a mobile audio platform that launched in March 2009. Before becoming an independent company in September 2009, Audioboo was owned by Mark's company, Best Before Media, which focuses on developing new publishing toolsets for TV & radio professionals.
Previous to that, he co-founded Static2358, which owned the highly successful interactive TV games channel, PlayJam, which broadcast on Sky and cable in the UK, TPS & Canal+ in France and Cablevision in the US. PlayJam was sold to Open TV Inc in 2001 for $60m.
Helen Shaw CEO, Athena Media
Helen Shaw is one of Ireland's most experienced media professionals, and runs her own company, Athena Media, whose client roster includes RTE, BBC and O2, as well as Irish government agencies. Athena Media launched www.podcastingireland.ie, Ireland's premier podcasting portal, in March 2006 and continues to produce a number of high-profile podcasts for the site.
Formerly Helen was Managing Director of RTE Radio for five years, and launched RTE Lyric FM in 1999.
Brett Spencer Interactive Editor, BBC Radio Five Live
Brett Spencer started in local radio working for LBC moving to IRN as a sports producer/reporter before joining London Tonight at Carlton TV in 1995. Brett was appointed Sports Editor at breakfast television show GMTV in 1996 and was there for four years, spending his last year as Senior Producer of the main programme.
He joined TWI/IMG in 2000, producing programmes, series and interactive content. In 2002 he was hired by NTL to develop and roll out their paid-for online services across over 70 official football club websites.
Brett has been Interactive Editor for BBC Radio 5 live since 2004 and last year led the team to the Sony Radio Gold multiplatform award.
Kristin Zeier Interactive Editor, BBC Radio Five Live
Kristin Zeier to Germany permanently in 1998 from the USA to work as an editor at an international publishing house before coming to Deutsche Welle's fledgling online department in 2001. She helped launch the German international broadcaster's first website, www.dw-world.de, and became head of the site's English team in 2002.
Between 2007 and 2009, Deutsche Welle began merging radio and online departments to create multimedia offerings targeted at international information seekers. Kristin headed this process for the English site and became head of the newly-formed multimedia English team in 2009. Since then she was worked to expand the online coverage and introduce new radio formats as well as explore ways of incorporating social media networks into editorial workflows to enhance the dialogue with the user and listener.
